Safety Tips
Your safety is our priority. Follow these guidelines when buying or selling equipment on Mowstash.
Meet in a Public Place
Choose a well-lit, busy public location like a parking lot of a hardware store or home improvement center. Avoid meeting at your home or the buyer/seller's home for the first transaction.
Bring Someone With You
Never go alone to meet a buyer or seller, especially for large or expensive equipment. Having a friend present adds safety and helps with loading/unloading heavy items.
Use Safe Payment Methods
Cash is king for local sales. If accepting electronic payments, use established platforms. Never accept checks or wire transfers. Count cash before handing over equipment.
Document Everything
Take photos of the equipment before the sale. Note the serial number if available. For expensive items, consider a simple bill of sale with both parties' signatures.
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off about a listing or a buyer, trust your gut. Watch for red flags: prices that are too good to be true, pressure to act quickly, requests to ship before payment.
Verify the Equipment
Ask to see the equipment running before you buy. Check for unusual sounds, smoke, or leaks. Ask for maintenance records. For motorized equipment, check engine hours and serial numbers.
Report Suspicious Activity
If you encounter a listing or user that seems fraudulent, please use the Report button on the listing or profile page. Our moderation team reviews all reports promptly.
